Incorporating the space-time perspective in plant biology

In a recent study published in the journal Trends in Plant Science, Dr. Sergi Munné Bosch, professor at the Faculty of Biology, member of the Biodiversity Research Institute (IRBio) and INSA-UB researcher, points out the importance of incorporating a spatio-temporal frame of reference in the investigation of biological processes affecting plants, not only to better understand them, but also to be able to carry out long-term practical actions that persist over several generations (time) and are effective at a global level (space).

The application of new technologies that incorporate artificial intelligence programs in research in the field of plant biology is crucial for this and is the next challenge of science to decipher the unknowns about the complexity of biological processes and, consequently, to better coexist with other species with which we share the planet, concluded Dr. Munné-Bosch.
