Ancient trees and forest survival

A paper published in the journal Nature Plants reveals that older trees, beyond being living beings that provide a majestic presence, provide a number of ecosystem benefits in forests. These long-surviving trees -some reach centenarian or millennial age- are also vital for preserving the long-term adaptive capacity of forests in the face of a constantly changing environment.
Dr. Sergi Munné Bosch, professor at the Faculty of Biology of the University of Barcelona, INSA-UB researcher and member of the Institute for Research on Biodiversity (IRBio), together with researchers from the United States and Italy, have participated in this work.
